Hi! I'm Kim.
I’m on a mission to spread a love of reading in your home.
I have all the necessary qualifications:
- Bachelors in Elementary Education and Psychology
- Masters of Education in Reading from the University of Virginia
- 1st, 3rd, & 4th Grade teacher and Tutor
- Reading Specialist
- Tutor
My favorite credential is the mom of four.
I know what it’s like to be so tired at the end of the day, pulling out a book for bedtime is the last thing you feel like doing. I know the struggle! These activities will help foster that love of reading in your home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What age is this for again? Can my first grader participate?
A: This is designed for kids in second through fourth grades, approximately 7-10 year olds. Both younger and older kids can do it, but the younger readers may need more help from you. The more independent your reader is, the easier the literacy activities will be to complete without your help.
Q: How much time will this take from ME?
A: There is a short introductory video just for parents. I designed this Virtual Zoo Camp so that you can get your kids set up with books, ingredients, and supplies, and then hopefully they just push "play" while you get your things done or enjoy that quiet cup of coffee!
Q: How long will this occupy my child?
A: There is an optional schedule that includes 90 minutes of activities for 5 days. However, this truly depends on your child. Many previous zoo-campers get really into their final project, so it depends! You can plan for at least an hour (with breaks!) at a time if your child completes all of the literacy activities.
Q: Do I have to pay for both of my kids?
A: The cost covers a family Virtual Zoo Camp pass! Have your fourth grader help your first grader and enjoy some quiet time. The idea is to have FUN with reading and writing!
